In the Shadow of Your Wings

Like a mighty rock
in a weary, sunburnt land
you offer me shelter
where there is no other.

You are the living water
to quench the burning thirst
of my aching soul.

You feed me with yourself,
sweet manna of heaven
the very bread of life.

Where else will I find my true home,
But in the shadow of your wings,
Today,
tomorrow and always.

Morning Prayer on a Sick Day

At this moment, Lord,
I come to you,
frail,
ill,
so aware of my mortality,
and full of knowledge of
how small a speck I am in the face
of an immense universe.

And yet,
rather than despair,
I instead
remember a time
you chose to become
frail,
vunerable,
grieved,
tortured,
and executed
by a miserable death
for all the poor
vunerable,
sinful
small specks that we are
for love.

Thank you Lord,
for holding our hands
when the days are dark.

Let me offer all my fears
and sorrows
on the altar of your love,
Hide me in your Sacred Heart,
for only there will I find my peace.

Prayer to be God's Witness

This day, O Lord,
help us to be living witnesses
of the great wonder
of God's love
for mankind,
even amid a storm of dark troubles
and the evil of everyday life.

Let us shine
like cities on the hill,
radiating like beacons
of your love
to all we come in contact with today.

Let us be the salt
that preserves
in a world that is aching
for that which saves.
May our example show them
the truth of where they should look.

May we be the leaven
that lifts up the heaviness
of life,
and allows the light of your wonder
to penetrate
into every niche and corner.

Amen.

Gifts from the Holy Spirit

Lord,
teach me to not say no,
when the Spirit touches me
with the gifts
you would have me use.

Open my heart
with a generous response
when He comes to shower me
with that which your love
offers
to make my life more fully yours.

O Holy Spirit,
fill me with the fire of your love,
and help me to know
the things I should do,
the actions I should take,
the paths I should take,
the words I should say.

May I cherish your gifts
more than gold and silver,
for they are the tools
that a loving God
gives me.

Amen.

A Prayer for Frustrating Moments

Hurting,
frustrated,
and confused,
I turn to you,
my anchor, my hope, my light.

O Lord,
so much I long to accomplish
yet
so often what I turn my hand to
seems to crumble up
and blow away
like dust,
either my standing in the way of your action,
or struggling against the current of where you would have me go.

Lord,
help me to learn
patience,
and to persevere,
to have pure motives,
to understand the paths you set me on,
to choose your way over my own,
and above all, to always be willing to say yes.
